Starting a business in Guyana: how the work begins

Starting a business in Guyana begins with one question: who has to read the papers. For most founders in Georgetown that reader is the registry, a partner, or a bank. Oma Solutions prepares the pack that reader asked for. The registry or the bank decides what happens next.

The registration comes first, and it is one of two different jobs. A business name is the registration many sole traders and partnerships use when they will trade under a name that is not their own. A company is a separate legal entity, with owners and an activity the registry records. Business registration in Guyana prepares the business-name path. Company setup and incorporation prepares the company path. We confirm which one matches how you will operate before either pack is treated as ready. Name rules, forms, fees, and deadlines stay with the registry.

After the registry step, a TIN and an NIS registration are official steps you take with the GRA and with NIS. Those agencies keep their own forms and fees. This engagement can include documents you ask us to prepare. It does not file those returns for you.

A bank you have chosen may then ask for a written proposal: who owns the business, what it does, and figures you can support. A bank account proposal in Guyana follows the list that bank gave you. The bank decides whether the account opens.

The work starts when we name the reader of the pack. We collect the facts you already have, list what is still missing, and draft the pack for you to check. You decide when it is sent. A quotation for the registration does not include the company pack, the bank proposal, or the books.
